Louis XV 1715–1774 ‘Mirliton’ gold louis with long palm fronds, 1724 H, La Rochelle, AU Obverse: Nude, laureate bust of the King facing right; below, 1724. Reverse: Two intertwined cursive ‘L’s’ beneath a crown, flanked by two palm fronds. Below, the mintmark Ref: G. 339, Fr. 459, Dup. 1638 Grading: PCGS UNC DETAIL Condition: Superb Trésor du Chameau: This ship, which had set sail from Rochefort bound for New France, was shipwrecked off Cape Breton (Nova Scotia). It was carrying a year’s worth of provisions and coinage, most of which had been struck in La Rochelle. The treasure was discovered in 1965.
