Description
Indochina, Second Republic (1870–1940) 20 centimes, 19(20) incomplete date, AG 5.40 g, by Barre. Ref: Lec 219. Grading: PCGS SP 67. Condition: FDC. ` : This is the highest grade known at PCGS. Extremely rare. France acquired Indochina province by province between 1859 and 1887. It comprised Cochinchina, Tonkin, Annam, Cambodia and, in 1893, Laos. Despite strong national opposition to the French presence, the systematic exploitation of Indochina’s resources continued, and by the time the Second World War broke out, this colony was France’s wealthiest. The Geneva Accords of July 1954 brought an end to the French presence in Indochina.
