Condition: SUP-FDC On the death of Dom João VI, his son (already Emperor of Brazil) refused to return to Europe and announced the transfer of his rights to his daughter Maria da Glória as Maria II. In Lisbon, his uncle Miguel I of Portugal seized the crown, leading to a civil war that lasted until his defeat in 1834.
