TTB Tmutarakan was an ancient principality of medieval Russia situated on the Taman Peninsula, between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. It occupied a strategic position for trade and commerce between the Byzantine world, the steppes and Kievan Rus’. It was notably ruled by Mstislav I of Chernigov in the 11th century.
