Quarto, marbled calfskin, decorated raised spine, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt roulette on the edges. The illustrations consist of two maps (a plan of the new canal and the Trollhette weir on the River Gotha in Sweden, the course of the River Po from Primaro and the rivers of the plains, the Boulonnois region and Romagna) and a table, all of which fold out. First edition of De Serrey’s French translation of this highly comprehensive treatise on the state of knowledge at the time concerning rivers, streams and watercourses, their flow rates, alluvial deposits, riverbeds and how to alter them, their gradients, estuaries, etc. The author cites all the studies and works that had been written in this field and focuses in particular on the course of the Primaro, which was intended to channel the waters of the Po and other rivers.
