[MAGNÉ DE MAROLLES (Gervais François)]. Hunting with a Rifle. Paris: Printed by Théophile Barrois, 1788–1791. Bound together with: Supplement to the Treatise on Hunting with a Rifle. First edition under this title, with its Supplement appearing for the first time. The first part of this work was published in 1781 under the title *Essai sur la chasse au fusil*. It is illustrated with 9 separate plates, including 3 fold-outs. The first French work devoted exclusively to the hunting rifle and rifle hunting, this book is also the first treatise on hunting to devote a substantial study to waterfowl (Thiebaut, 621–22). In 8vo, grained calfskin, smooth spine with decorative lettering, title label in red morocco (contemporary binding). Caps and corners worn, some scuffing.
