Description
[BRAC]. The Wine Trade, Revised, Corrected and Refined; or A New Method for Deriving Prompt and Profitable Benefit from Wine Harvests. A work intended specifically for lords and parish priests in wine-growing regions, for vineyard owners and growers, for wine merchants in Paris and those in other towns throughout the Kingdom, and generally for all those involved in this trade at any stage, as well as for consumers themselves. The principles it contains may equally and readily be applied to the trade in grain, hay, timber and all agricultural produce. By Mr C*** S***, barrister at the Parliament of Paris. Amsterdam, and available in Lyon, Louis-Joseph Berthoud, 1769. Small 8vo, title page, 175 pp., 166 pp. [Notes], 6 pp. [Errata], marbled fawn sheepskin, decorated raised spine, red title page, red edges (contemporary binding). Two damaged corners, very slight scuffing on the covers, title page slightly discoloured. A unique edition, very rare. Although not stated on the title page, the work deals exclusively with the production and marketing of Beaujolais wines. In particular, it describes the 16 parishes producing first-class wines: Juliénas, Odenas, Quincié, Fleurie, etc., provides a history of these wines, and denounces the abuses of Parisian wine merchants who ‘tamper’ with Beaujolais wines, exploiting and defrauding the winegrowers, and preventing these wines from being sold as authentic vintages.
