Anjou – TANCREDE (Abraham). Château-Gontier and its surroundings. Château-Gontier, Béziers, 1872. Folio, half black shagreen with corner pieces, decorated ribbed spine, double gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt top edge (bound by Conilleau in Laval). Limited edition of 350 copies, illustrated with 30 superb hors-texte etchings with captions, including a vignette on the title page by Abraham Tancrède. Texts by the Comte de Falloux, Arsène Houssaye, Dom Piolin, the Comte de Nogent, Victor Pavie, A. Lemarchand, etc. A unique edition reserved exclusively for subscribers. The superb plates depict, amongst others, the châteaux of Angers, Brissac, Montsabert, Blaison, Serrant and Le Plessis-Bourré; the Saint-Aubin and Guillou towers; the Roche de Murs, the Maison d’Adam, the Ardoisières, the Pénitentes, Rue Saint-Laud, the ruins of Champtocé, etc., etc. A very fine copy with no foxing (except on a few of the plates).
