Burgundy – LEBEUF (Jean). Memoirs on the civil and ecclesiastical history of Auxerre and its former diocese. Continued to the present day by Mr Challe and Mr Quantin. Auxerre: Perriquet, Rouillé, Guillaume-Maillefer; Paris: Dumoulin, 1848–1855. 4 vols. large 8vo, with illustrations in the text, and 11 separate plates, including a lithographed frontispiece portrait with a serpent motif, 4 fold-out maps (the diocese, the town, the county), one fold-out chromolithographic plate, two plates of coats of arms, two fold-out lithographed view plates, one lithographed portrait (Amyot), red half-shagreen, ribbed spine decorated with double gilt panels, speckled edges (contemporary binding). A fine copy. This is the finest edition of this magnificent regional monograph, originally published in two quarto volumes in 1743, and now almost as difficult to find as the original.
