Brittany. [Memories of the Rennes festivities. 26, 27 and 28 April 1857] Inauguration of Rennes railway station (April 1857). Rennes, Oberthur Printing and Lithography, [1857]. Folio format comprising (1) folio, 7 pp. and 8 plates, half-chagrin cloth (later binding). Description of the railway station’s inauguration and transcription of the official speeches, accompanied by 8 plates (out of 10) by E. Vaumort and A. Paillard (float in the procession and view of the banquet). Mounted on the first folio is a lithograph entitled ‘Souvenir des fêtes de Rennes (August 1853)’, depicting Bertrand du Guesclin surrounded by numerous military insignia, a view of the town hall, the coat of arms of Rennes and his own. Composed by C. Oberthur and printed on the ‘Char de l’Imprimerie’ press by its workers, this lithograph was presented by the Mayor of Rennes [Frédéric de Moncuit] to Mr Legeard de la Dyriais [Diriays], a city councillor; it bears a handwritten ex-dono inscription, the mayor’s signature and the city’s seal. Fragile hinge, traces of old water damage. Rare.
