Description
Pyrenees – [FABAS (J.)]. Further observations on the current state of the mountains of the Hautes-Pyrénées, and the thermal springs that flow from them; in particular those of Saint-Sauveur. Preceded by an account of Her Majesty the Queen of Holland’s passage through the Vignemale, etc. On Dusaulx’s funeral oration in the Gavarnie valley, etc. Tarbes: printed by F. Lavigne, 1808. In-8, XXXI-152-[4] pp., caramel-coloured half-calf, ribbed spine decorated with gilt fillets and garlands, red head (later binding). First edition. A very fine book devoted to the natural history of the Pyrenees. “A work devoted to the region of Saint-Sauveur, by J. Fabas, who was Inspector of the thermal waters of Saint-Sauveur” (Perret). The book is dedicated to His Majesty Louis Bonaparte, in memory of the mountains he travelled through. (Labarère, 554. ‘Sought after’. Perret, 185.) A fine copy.
