Touraine – [MANUSCRIPT] – [HÜE DE MIROMESNIL (Thomas)]. A summary account of the Generality of Tours, comprising the provinces of Touraine, Anjou and Maine. Sl, 1698.
Small quarto, title page, 130 folios, [1] folio, then folios 131–282, [1] folio, then folios 283–319, all covered in medium-sized, neat and very legible handwriting, with no erasures or crossings-out (approximately 20 lines per page), in a stiff cream-coloured cardboard cover (contemporary binding).
This is one of the copies of one of the ‘Mémoires des intendants sur l’état des généralités’ (Reports by the Intendants on the State of the Generalities) drawn up from 1697 onwards for the instruction of the Duke of Burgundy at the request of Louis XIV.
Thomas Hüe de Miromesnil (1634–1702), a councillor of the Grand Council and Master of Requests (1668), served successively as intendant of Poitiers (1672), Châlons (1673), Champagne (1675), and finally Tours (1689 to 1701).
