Description
PARIS in all its splendour. Monuments, views, historical scenes and history. Paris, Charpentier, 1851. 3 large folio volumes, the first two in brown half-shagreen, ribbed spines, spines and covers decorated with the gilded coat of arms of the City of Paris, gilt edges; the third volume in green half-shagreen, with a decorated ribbed spine and the initials ‘J. A.’ gilded on the front cover (contemporary bindings). A few minor scuffs; the clasps of the last volume are worn. The illustrations comprise a total of 38 wood-engraved vignettes within the text and 100 two-colour lithographs, out-of-print, by Philippe Benoist, Arnout, Bayot, Ciceri, etc. The first quire of the final volume is detached. Rare foxing in the first two volumes, more pronounced in the last.
