Description
ROBERT DE VAUGONDY (Didier). *Walks in the Outskirts of Paris*, in four maps, with a plan of Paris, preceded by a brief historical description of the places depicted therein. Paris: published by the author and Antoine Boudet, 1761.
In-8, iv pp., pp. 5–59, [5] unnumbered pages of table of contents, with 5 double-page maps engraved by De La Haye or Arrivet, including a plan of Paris, marbled fawn calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, red title page, red edges (contemporary binding). Restoration to the corners and cap bands.
A unique and rare edition of this tourist guide to the localities around Paris, organised into four areas: the environs of Saint-Denis; the environs of Saint-Cloud; the environs of Bourg-la-Reine; and the environs of Vincennes.
Meticulously produced, both in terms of the text—drawn from Abbé Lebeuf’s *History of the Diocese of Paris*—and the five maps, it is intended as a supplement to the new map of Paris produced by Didier Robert de Vaugondy (1723–1786) in 1760. (Quérard VIII, 76.)
