Description
North Africa – DENNIÉE (Baron). A Historical and Administrative Account of the African Campaign. Paris, Delaunay, 1830. In-8, dark brown half-shagreen, spine with gold thread (light later binding, mid-19th century). [2] ff., 219 pp., [2] ff., 6 large fold-out plates. First edition of this historical account, published immediately after the conquest of Algiers, recounting the main events and documents from the preparations for the operation through to the capture of Algiers in July 1830. One of the first books devoted to the conquest of Algeria, by Baron Denniée, chief quartermaster of the expeditionary army. He left Algiers in August 1830 due to ill health. (Chadenat, 2856; Gay, 891; Tailliart, 1862.) A few rare foxing spots. A very fine copy. Ex-libris of the Marquis de Turenne-d’Aynac.
