Description
North Africa – LESSORE (Émile) & WYLD (William). A Picturesque Journey through the Regency of Algiers, undertaken in 1833 and lithographed by E. Lessore & W. Wyld. Dedicated to Mr Horace Vernet. Paris, Motte, 1835. Folio, red half-shagreen with corner pieces, plain spine with decoration (contemporary binding). Very heavy water damage to the upper part of the volume (binding and pages). Engraved title page, 20 pp. of text and 47 (out of 50) lithographic plates on applied laid paper. The margins of the plates are more or less browned with scattered foxing. Plates 9, 15 and 50 are missing. Plate 20 has been added as a loose leaf with narrower margins. With an engraved portrait by Devéria added as a loose leaf frontispiece.
