South America – ZARATE (Augustin de). History of the Discovery and Conquest of Peru. Paris, Compagnie des libraires, 1716. 2 vols. in-12, marbled brown calf, decorated ribbed spine, title and volume number labels in havana and red marbling, red edges (contemporary binding). The bindings differ very slightly. The illustrations consist of an engraved frontispiece, 13 plates (separate from the text), including two fold-out plates, and a map of Peru, all contained in the first volume as is customary. Handwritten bookplate by Barras (though unrelated to Paul Barras). Modern bookplate by Dr L. Ribadeau-Dumas. (Sabin 106261.)
