2 in-8 volumes of xiv-406-(1) pp. — (2) ff., 408 pp., and an in-4 atlas; fawn half-calf, smooth, decorated spines, title and volume number labels in green morocco, marbled edges (contemporary binding).
First French edition, translated by Malte-Brun. It is accompanied by an atlas of 18 plates engraved by Tardieu (views of the port of Praya, the great aqueduct in Rio de Janeiro, a map of Southern Africa, costumes, genre scenes, and two colour plates of botanical subjects).
This volume contains valuable information on the countries visited (Madeira, the Canary Islands, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia and Vietnam).
A good copy. Minor signs of wear to the bindings, some foxing, and a small water stain in the corner of the margins of the plates.
