Colonies – FAURE (Félix). Ministry of the Navy and the Colonies. Speech delivered by Mr Félix Faure, Under-Secretary of the Navy and the Colonies, on 11 February 1885, at the opening of the session of the Higher Council of the Colonies. Paris, Journal Officiel Printing Office, 1885. Quarto, 7 pp.; paperback, printed green cover. The Higher Council for the Colonies was established in 1883 by the Minister for the Navy and the Colonies, Alexandre Peyron. Its remit was to give its opinion on draft laws or decrees, and on colonial matters submitted by the Minister. It was composed of senators and deputies from the colonies, elected delegates from the colonies, appointed members, and administrators. This speech briefly recounts ‘the key events of 1884 and the main measures taken by the administration’ in the various French colonies. A fine copy preserved in its original booklet. Very small tears to the cover, with no pages missing.
