Egypt – BURCKARDT (Charles). Alexandria. Wissembourg, [c. 1880]. Original lithograph measuring 27.3 x 38.2 cm. A very fine contemporary colour print depicting the city of Alexandria as seen from Fort Napoleon. Due to its position, this fort was responsible for defending the Inner Harbour. It is known as Fort Napoleon, or less commonly as Fort Caffarelli, named after the General-Engineer who built it during the Egyptian Campaign. A fine example.
