First edition, with a preface by Ferdinand de Lesseps.
Following an introduction briefly recounting the history of Egypt, the work is devoted to the administration and reforms of Mohamed Said Pasha (1822–1863), the fourth son of Mehmet Ali and his third successor. He served as governor of Egypt and Sudan from 1854 to 1863.
