Description
Italy – SCHOTT (François). History of Italy, containing a description of its peculiarities. Paris, Collet, 1627. In-8, red morocco, spine with raised bands richly decorated, fine gilt border framing the covers with a gilt coat of arms in the centre (contemporary binding). First edition of the French translation by Claude Mallingre of this guide to Italy written by the historian François Schott (1548–1622), revised and expanded by his brother André (1552–1629). A fine copy in period morocco leather bearing the coat of arms of Pierre Maussion (1588–1627), bailiff of Brûlon (Maine).
