A new and rare edition of this account of a journey undertaken between 1630 and 1632 by four learned gentlemen: Gilles Fermanel, Robert Fauvel, Baudouin de Launay (prominent figures from Rouen), who were joined by Stochove, a nobleman from Bruges. Whilst their primary aim was a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, they were all driven by a keen curiosity about the territories of the Ottoman Empire. Setting out from Paris, they travelled through Italy before reaching Constantinople, then journeyed through the Greek islands, Asia Minor, Cyprus, Syria, Palestine, Jerusalem, Egypt and the Sinai. Published in Rouen in 1664, this significant travelogue goes beyond a mere pilgrimage: it offers a detailed description of the cities, monuments, peoples, religions and customs observed during the journey.
