Middle East – SOLTYKOFF (Alexis). A Journey to Persia. Paris, Victor Lecou, 1854. Large 8vo, black percaline, polychrome decoration on the spine and covers, gilt edges (publisher’s binding). The volume is illustrated with 22 lithographed plates with tinted backgrounds, based on the author’s drawings (landscapes, horsemen, dancers, portraits, bazaar scenes, etc.). During his childhood, Soltykoff witnessed a visit by a Persian embassy to Saint Petersburg, which inspired him to travel to that country. In 1838, he therefore undertook this journey via the Caucasus, before visiting Tiflis, the Arax, Miana and Tehran. A good copy. Foxing.
