Slavery – MORLAND (George). The Slave Trade. What a despicable contract: one trades in what belongs to no one, the other sells what is the property of nature. No place, [1794]. Pointillist engraving (43 x 51 cm) mounted on cardboard. Engraving depicting a scene in which European slave traders are haggling over African slaves. This engraving, which denounces the trade in black slaves, was produced in 1794 to mark the first abolition of slavery in the French colonies by the National Convention on 4 February 1794. Unfortunately, this copy has some defects.
