Description
[Saint-Domingue]. [Matters relating to the Petit plantations – Manuscript]. Saint-Domingue, 1797–1801. 21 documents in quarto or folio format, in loose sheets. Following the uprising in Saint-Domingue (1793–1794), the administration of two plantations belonging to the Petit family was disrupted by the events of the Revolution. Before her departure for the United States in 1797, Benoîte-Victoire Petit entrusted her father, by power of attorney, with the administration of her estates in the colony. This small file brings together the surviving documents concerning the management and administrative procedures relating to these properties, which were the object of covetousness on the part of unscrupulous farmers (detailed list of documents available on request).
