Saint-Domingue. [Letter on the situation in Saint-Domingue]. Saint-Marc, 28 July 1790. 4 pp. in-4 (24.2 x 18.5 cm) on a double sheet. The latest deliberations of the Assembly of Saint-Marc. An interesting letter concerning the latest debates of the Assembly of Saint-Marc (24 July 1790), established at the start of the Revolution in Saint-Domingue. The correspondent reports on a particularly heated session triggered by the arrest of a patriotic soldier, which the deputies denounced as an infringement of individual liberty. The Assembly ordered his release, dismissed Captain Romillon – a loyal supporter of Governor de Peynier – and attempted to take control of the powder magazine by mobilising volunteers.
