Description
VERNE (Jules). *Five Weeks in a Balloon* & *Journey to the Centre of the Earth*. Paris, Hetzel, undated [1868 & 1867]. Customised cardboard binding on a brick-red background. Very minor repairs to the spine, which is in excellent condition. White interior. *Five Weeks* was printed by Carion in 1868, whilst *Journey to the Centre of the Earth* is still dated 1867, printed by Bonaventure, in which the ‘V’ is still missing from the caption on page 45, but in which Chapter 42 is spelled correctly (xLII), though the ‘X’ is smaller. This is therefore the personalised hardback in its final form, the words ‘Deuxième série’ having been removed from the decoration on the front cover. The cover is splendid. A magnificent copy in very good condition, in a colour that is quite rare for this title.
