Geoffroy-Dechaume, and 8 engravings after d’Aubigny, Sandoz and Wattier. The final volume, which is unillustrated, is the second edition, more complete than the first of 1829 (Vicaire). The *Musique* volume is here enhanced by a facsimile of a letter in Granville’s own hand to Béranger, comprising two folios, and by 81 (out of 84) plates intended to illustrate Grandville’s *Album Béranger*. The *Ma biographie* volume is enhanced, at the end, by a double-page plate engraved by Le Normand. The plate on page 65 is missing from the *Dernières chansons* volume. A few scuffed corners, foxing. During the Restoration, Pierre-Jean de Béranger turned song into a veritable political weapon by denouncing the return of the Ancien Régime, clericalism and attacks on civil liberties, whilst extolling the Republic and the Empire. A huge popular success, his *Chansons* (1821) sold out in a matter of days and earned him exceptional renown, praised by François-René de Chateaubriand, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Charles-Augustin Sainte-Beuve, who regarded him as one of the great poetic voices of his century.
