Cold-stamped borders and corner motifs on the covers, gilt title on the front cover. First edition. Twelve two-tone lithographs, printed separately on mounted China paper, by Maurice Sand to illustrate legends from the Berry region – as told by his mother – in which witches, werewolves, ghosts and other will-o’-the-wisps take centre stage. Maurice’s fantastical illustrations, strange and unsettling, whose mystery is heightened by the two-tone lithography. A fine copy in the publisher’s cardboard binding.
