Paris, Hachette. 9 vols. in small 8vo (18.5 x 12.5 cm), including 2 vols. in half-cloth with corner pieces, plain spines with decorative detailing, title labels, and 7 vols. in red half-maroquin, spines with decorative raised bands, gilt heads (contemporary bindings). Including: - STOLZ (Mme de), *Les Poches de mon oncle*, illustrated with 20 vignettes by Bertall, 1874. Covers preserved, foxing. - GOURAUD (Julie), *Les Enfants de la ferme*, illustrated with 59 vignettes by Émile Bayard, 1874. Covers preserved, scattered foxing. - STOLZ (Madame de), *Le Secret de Laurent*, illustrated with 32 vignettes by Sahib, 1878. - MARTIGNAT (Mademoiselle de), *L’Oncle Boni*, illustrated with 42 vignettes drawn by C. Gilbert, 1880. - GÉRARD (André), *Petite Rose grande Jeanne*, illustrated with 28 woodcut vignettes by C. Gilbert, 1882. - STOLZ (Mme de), *Les Deux André*, illustrated with 45 vignettes by Tofani, 1884. A few minor scuffs on the bindings; otherwise a fine set on China paper, including 7 volumes in half-maroquin, comprising works by contemporary female authors who were followers and rivals of the Countess of Ségur, the leading figure of the collection. Between 1875 and 1888, Hachette published a number of large-format editions of books from certain popular series, including the ‘Bibliothèque rose illustrée’; these were produced as paperbacks.
