Preceded by a literary essay on Charles Perrault by M. E. de la Bédollierre. Illustrated by Messrs Pauquet, Marvy, Jeanron, Jacque and Beaucé. Text engraved by M. Blanchard. Paris, L. Curmer, publisher, 1843. Large 8vo (18 x 27.6 cm) comprising 1 half-title page, 1 frontispiece title page, (4)-LII pp. and (54) ff., (4) pp. Chocolate-coloured long-grain half-maroquin with corner pieces, gilt headband, double cold-stamped fillet, spine with five raised bands decorated with gilt panels, illustrated covers preserved (Niédrée). First printing of this Curmer edition, entirely engraved, except for the introductory presentation leaves. Each tale is illustrated with a frontispiece and several vignettes. The book brings together the eight classic prose tales and the prose version of *Peau d’âne*. One of the finest 19th-century Perrault volumes in an elegant contemporary binding by Jean-Édouard Niédrée. A fine copy in which the illustrated covers – extremely rare – have been preserved, along with the four-page illustrated introductory leaflet announcing the publication in instalments from October 1842.
