In-4, havana-coloured sheepskin, decorated ribbed spine, title page (contemporary binding). Age-related wear to the leather. Caps, headband and edges rubbed. Scattered pinholes. First French edition of this work, originally written in Dutch by Nieuwentyt and translated into French by Pierre Noguez from the fifth edition of the English version. The illustrations consist of 29 fold-out engraved plates (anatomy, natural sciences, astronomy). It is a kind of encyclopaedia in which the author seeks to demonstrate the greatness of God through the beauty of His creation.
