Oblong folio (34 x 47 cm), marbled half-basane, decorated ribbed spine, gilt title (late 19th-century binding). Second edition of this fine collection of views of Roman monuments by the master engraver Pietro Santi Bartoli (1635–1700), a pupil of Nicolas Poussin. It comprises an engraved title page, a dedication page to Cardinal Chigi featuring his portrait, and 82 copperplate engravings by Bartoli depicting ancient scenes or monuments. Scattered small foxing, mainly in the margins. Restored tear on plate 6. Minor worm damage in the corners on a few folios. Small light stain on p. 57. A few light water stains in the margins.
