Description
Greece – POTTER (John). *Archaeologia Graeca, or a more detailed account of the civil, religious, military and domestic rites of the ancient Greeks, particularly the Athenians*. Leiden, Pier Vander Aa, 1702. In-4, [6] unnumbered folios, [714] columns poorly numbered to 788, [7] folios of index, with 9 fine engraved plates, stiff vellum, smooth spine, pages speckled (contemporary binding). Quite significant losses of leather on the upper cover. The first Latin translation, produced for Gronovius’s *Thesaurus antiquitatum Graecarum* collection, where it forms part of Volume XII. The work was highly regarded at the time and served as a dictionary of Greek antiquities until the publication of William Smith’s dictionary. (Brunet, IV, 847.)
