LE TROSNE (Guillaume-François). On Provincial Administration and Tax Reform. Basel, and available in Paris from Pierre J. Duplain, 1788. 2 vols., in-8, [4]-XVI-605 pp. and [4]-556 pp., green half-calf with small corners in green vellum, plain spine decorated with two clusters of small gilt fleurons, gilt fillets and fleurons, yellow edges (contemporary binding). Small wormholes on the upper edge of volume I and on the spine of volume II. Second edition. The first edition, published in 1779 in quarto format, had been seized on the orders of the Keeper of the Seals because Le Trosne advocated the taxation of the estates of the nobility and the clergy. The main aim of the initial proposal—the creation of provincial administrations—was to improve tax collection.
