Concordantiae Graecae versionis vulgo dictae LXX interpretum, [...] Amsterdam and Utrecht, published at the Society’s expense, 1718. 2 substantial vols. in-4, speckled fawn calfskin, ornate ribbed spine, red and green title and volume number labels added later, red edges (contemporary binding). Covers scuffed, slight tear at the spine, corners damaged. First edition of this major concordance of the Greek version of the LXX set side by side with the Hebrew. The Septuagint, or Alexandrian Bible, is a Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament produced between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC in Alexandria, Egypt, and is said to have been compiled by 70 or 72 Jewish scholars. Abraham Trompeter (or Tromm or Trommius) (1633–1719) was a theologian of the Reformed Church of the Netherlands, who had studied at the University of Groningen and had perfected his Hebrew under the guidance of Buxtorf during a trip to Germany. It was he who took up the work begun by Johann Martinius to compile a Bible concordance in Dutch, which he finally published in 1691.
