In-8 (15 x 20.5 cm), in two columns, VI-128-(8) pp., table of contents, 45 engraved plates, marbled calfskin, plain decorated spine, title label in red morocco, red edges (contemporary binding) First edition under this title of Daniel de La Feuille’s book of emblems, *Ancient and Modern Devises and Emblems Drawn from the Most Famous Authors*, first published in 1691 and reprinted in 1700 under the title *Essay on a Dictionary Containing Knowledge of the World, the Universal Sciences, and in Particular that of Medals*. 576 emblematic medallions accompanied by explanatory quatrains and captions, numbered and printed opposite them – on 45 plates engraved by F. de Kaarsgieter, of which 36 are adorned with 15 figures each and 9 plates with 4 figures each, followed by the *Historical Summary of the Birth, Life and Death of Mary II, Queen of England of Glorious Memory* (pages 117 to 128). A Protestant originally from Sedan, Daniel de La Feuille (1640–1709) took refuge in Amsterdam in 1683, where he worked as an engraver, goldsmith, clockmaker and bookseller.
