Description
Grimoire – IROÉ-GREGO. True Black Magic, or The Secret of Secrets. A manuscript found in Jerusalem, in Solomon’s Tomb. Containing: Forty-five talismans with their engravings, together with instructions on how to use them and their marvellous properties; and all the magical characters known to date; translated from the Hebrew by the magus Iroé-Grego. Rome [Lille], Garcia [Bloquel], 1750 [c. 1840]. In-18, 144 pp., with an engraved frontispiece outside the text and numerous Kabbalistic and talismanic figures engraved within the text. Numerous foxing spots. “A serious work, a genuine treatise on practical magic, based on Kabbalah and astrology.” Caillet (5419). “Very rare” according to Stanislas de Guaita, this work, divided into two books, constitutes a genuine practical treatise on ceremonial magic. It brings together a large number of rituals and incantations designed, in particular, to achieve invisibility, to invoke or compel spirits, and to perform exorcisms. The second book is entirely devoted to pentacles, describing their construction, designs and uses, before concluding with a complete exorcism ritual. Collin de Plancy notes (in his article “Magic and the Magician”) that “it contains mainly incantations”. (cf. Collin de Plancy, Dictionnaire infernal, 319; Stanislas de Guaïta, 1051; Caillet, II, 5419; Dorbon, 5089.) Ex-libris Banse, Fécamp.
