Description
[Brie – Bailiwick of Melun – Andrezel]. Manuscript. Melun, 1537.
Folio-sized manuscript on vellum (27 x 33 cm) comprising 114 folios, written in brown ink with 24 lines per page, featuring squiggles and old script on the upper cover (contemporary binding).
Manuscript drawn up in the bailiwick of Melun to record the division of the land and seigneury of Andrezel between Philippe de Longueval (1490–1547), Lord of Haraucourt and Cramailles, an official in the service of Francis I, and his wife Dame Suzanne de Vignacourt, ‘and between Messrs Maurice Bulliot and Nicolas Vielle as guardians and curators of the minor children of the late Mr Jean Vielle’. Andrezel belonged to the French Brie region and fell under the ‘bailiwick and election’ of Melun, whose customs it followed; it was a parish in the deanery of Champeaux (diocese of Paris) within the diocese of Sens.
Enclosed: 4 handwritten 18th-century pages entitled ‘The house of Claude Legros’ etc. Crumpled vellum, faint marginal water-stain; folio 45 has a hole resulting in the loss of a few letters.
