DU CHOUL (Guillaume). Discourse on the Religion of the Ancient Romans. Lyon, Guillaume Rouillé, 1556. Folio, 312-(51) pp., soft ivory vellum with an overcover (contemporary binding). First edition, first printing, attributed to Pierre Eskrich, known as Pierre Vase. This work follows on from the *Discourse on the Castration and Military Discipline of the Romans*, followed by the treatise *On Baths and Ancient Greek and Roman Exercises*, which Guillaume Rouillé had published the previous year. A few faint water stains on the upper margin; 47 illustrations in the text, including 5 full-page plates, and 554 wood-engraved medallions. Provenance: Engraved and heraldic bookplate: A. Brölemann with the motto ‘viligentia et prudentia’ on the front inside cover. A fine copy in its original binding.
