Journal. *Magasin des Demoiselles*, 1844–1870. 26 vols. large 8vo (26.5 x 17.5 cm), in glazed blue half-calf with romantic metalwork (5 vols.), followed by red half-shagreen with corner pieces (21 vols.), plain spines decorated with romantic metalwork, 18 of which feature the same design (contemporary bindings). A rare collection of the first 26 years of this cultural and educational magazine aimed at young women, which was published from 1844 to 1896. The first volume, dated 1845, also includes the first issues of the magazine published in late 1844. This collection concludes with the September 1870 issue. The illustrations comprise 473 separate plates, of which 340 are in colour (fashion illustrations and rare plates of flowers or birds) and 133 are in black or two-tone, along with numerous black-and-white illustrations within the text. Nine colour plates are missing. Slight rubbing, small wormholes on the spines of a few volumes, three damaged headbands and one restored, several partially split clamps, a few small water stains, worm tunnels, marginal stains or tears in places, scattered foxing.
