Austria – STRASSGSCHWANDTNER (Josef Anton) & PETTENKOFEN (August von). The Imperial and Royal Austrian Army in its Latest Uniform. Paris, Leykum, [1850–1854]. Three in-plano fascicles (610 x 442 mm), 19 plates (out of 36). Loose sheets, printed covers, blue half-cloth slipcase, Plexiglas endpapers with laces for closure (modern slipcase). A collection of 19 beautiful and monumental lithographed and coloured plates of Austrian uniforms, drawn by August von Pettenkofen (1822–1889) and Josef Anton Strassgschwandtner (1826–1881), renowned painters of the Dual Monarchy. They come from a rare album of military costumes dedicated to Emperor Franz Joseph I, published in 9 instalments at 6 florins each. The plates are preserved with three instalment covers and are numbered 17–21 and 23–36. Paper restoration along the margins of the covers; foxing; three plates slightly discoloured.
