Description
[MARTINET]. GALERIE DES ENFANS DE MARS, and a collection of the various uniforms of all the corps comprising the former Guard. Paris, Martinet, undated (1811). 3 volumes in-4, red long-grain half-maroquin, gilt lace, plain spine with decoration (contemporary binding). An exceptional collection of plates by Martinet published under the title Galerie des Enfants de Mars. A magnificent series of uniforms of the general staff and troops of the Imperial Guard, comprising an engraved title page, a coloured allegorical frontispiece, captioned *Galerie militaire*, and 291 plates coloured at the time (some of which are repeated in different states), with captions and numbers either engraved or handwritten. The third volume has no engraved title but bears the handwritten title *Galerie militaire française* (which appears in the other volumes before the engraved title).
