Description
MONTIGNY. Military Uniforms, featuring intaglio engravings of the uniforms of the King’s Household and of all the regiments of France, as well as flags, standards and pennants. Including the dates of their creation and various illustrations of manoeuvres for both the Cavalry and the Infantry. Paris: published by the author, 1772.
In-12, [3] leaves, 175 plates, 2 leaves of tables, green half-calf, spine with raised bands highlighted by gilt fillets and a gilt scroll at the foot, cold-stamped fleurons between the bands, marbled edges (Thouvenin).
“A very fine, complete and extremely rare set” (Colas).
A fully engraved work comprising four equestrian portraits—the king and the princes—170 plates of military uniforms (numbered 169, including a plate numbered 140 bis) and an unnumbered plate listing the names of colours and metals.
One of the rare copies coloured at the time. A fine copy bound in the 19th century by Thouvenin.
