BREITTMAYER (Georges). Code of Honour and Duelling. After the War. August 1914. Paris, Devambez, 1918. Quarto, paperback, illustrated cover with fill-in (soiled). First edition, printed in a run of 550 copies; author’s copy, with an ‘E.A.S.’ (‘Exemplaire d’auteur, signé’) inscription from the author to his friend Joe Bridge (6 October 1919) and a signed typewritten and handwritten letter, dated 7 October 1919, accompanying the book and setting out new conditions regarding several sword duels that had taken place in the meantime. A few small foxing spots. Georges Breittmayer (1859–1924) was best known for his sporting activities and, in particular, his role as a fencer and duellist (against Robert de Montesquiou in 1912 and Archag Torcom, standing in for Pierre Loti, in 1913). In 1914, he enlisted as a pilot in the French army and published this *Code of Honour and Duelling* shortly after the war. However, he also had a distinguished career as an industrialist, particularly in the raw materials sector (he was one of the founders of the Lisbon Gas and Electricity Company). He had undertaken a journey from Paris to the Caucasus and the Crimea on behalf of the Crimean Petroleum Company in Kerch around 1886.
