Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Garnier frères, 1847. Large 8vo, green half-basane, spine with faux raised bands threaded in gold, gilt title (contemporary binding). Page numbers rubbed. Portrait of the author and 10 lithographed plates inserted separately. Tear, but no loss of text. Angular cut on the title page. Foxing. H. Roure ex-libris stamp (and remnants of a torn ex-libris) Second edition, published on the same date as the original. Gelli, 372: “It is a masterfully written work, one of the most interesting and important that France possesses on the subject of fencing, both from the point of view of the art itself and that of criticism and the history of fencing.
