Decree issued by the Provosts of the Merchants and the Aldermen; in response to a submission by the King’s Prosecutor and the City of Paris, concerning a pamphlet, with no author or printer named, entitled: Reflections of a lawyer, consulted by a member of the Third Estate of the City of Paris, on the decree of the municipal council and the indictment by the King’s Prosecutor and that city, dated 30 December last, &c. - Consultation of the lawyers comprising the Council of the said City on the same matter. - Resolution of the General Assembly of the provosts of the merchants, aldermen, councillors and quartermasters of the said city, on the said consultation of the lawyers comprising the City Council; concerning the Convening of the Estates-General for the City of Paris. [Paris], Printed by Lottin the Elder & Lottin of St-Germain, 1789. 2 parts in one vol., 8vo, 126 pp., 66 pp., fawn half-basane, smooth spine decorated with gilt chains, pink cardboard covers, green edges (contemporary binding). A very important text concerning the rights of the Provost of Paris, who was the chief municipal magistrate under the Ancien Régime. The institution did not survive 14 July, and Bailly was immediately appointed mayor. Unknown to Tourneux, Martin and Walter.
