[ESTATES-GENERAL]. Collection of edicts and decrees for the city of Paris, and all the provinces and towns of the Kingdom, postage free. – Year 1789. Paris, N. H. Nyon, 1790. Large quarto volume, 4 pp. [title page and prospectus], pp. 5–40 of tables, all interleaved (but without handwritten annotations), followed by mixed pagination, marbled fawn calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, red and black title labels, red edges (contemporary binding). Upper cap trimmed. Following the two introductory tables (one thematic, one chronological), 269 documents are bound, each with separate pagination and its own page number, covering the period from 3 January to 31 December 1789. An official collection of royal acts, from the Parliament of Paris and then, from August 1789, from the National Assembly, this volume devoted to the year 1789 constitutes a major source on the transition from the Ancien Régime to the Revolution. In particular, it brings together texts relating to the convening of the Estates-General, electoral regulations, royal sessions, the decrees of 4 August and the first laws enacted by Louis XVI, offering an exceptional account of the birth of the new political order. Ex-libris vignette bearing the coat of arms of Warenghien de Flory, engraved by F. Danchin in Cambrai. Most likely Louis-Joseph de Warenghien de Flory (1741–1824), then a councillor at the Parliament of Flanders, and later Attorney General at the Court of Douai during the Empire, and a Member of Parliament during the Restoration.
