Description
[NATIONAL INSTITUTE]. Collection of documents relating to the work and members of the National Institute of Sciences and Arts. Paris, undated (1796–1802).
33 documents in 4 vols. in-8, speckled light calfskin, spine with decorated raised bands, red and green title and volume number labels, triple gilt fillet framing on the covers, red edges (binding slightly later).
A very interesting collated collection which brings together, under ink-written title pages (at the beginning of volumes I and IV), a large number of rare documents, printed separately and concerning the activities of the Institut de France, whether literary, scientific or artistic. Of particular note are the first four reports on the Institute’s activities, covering years IV–VII (items 12–15). (A detailed list of items is available on request.)
The collection was compiled by the former Member of the Constituent Assembly, Armand-Gaston Camus (1740–1804)—himself a member of the Institut and a key figure in the drafting of the Civil Constitution of the Clergy—for his personal use.
